Connecting Africa, one payment at a time.
We are connecting MyBooks.Africa to PAPSS, the payment system built by Afreximbank and the African Union so that African businesses can pay each other directly, in their own currencies, in seconds.
The problem it solves
Today, a payment from a business in Lagos to a supplier in Lusaka is usually converted into US dollars first, travels through correspondent banks outside Africa, and is converted again on arrival. It takes days, every bank on the way takes a fee, and both countries spend scarce dollar reserves on trade between two African neighbours.
PAPSS replaces that detour with a direct African route.
How it works
- You pay in your currencyYour bank sends the payment in your local currency through PAPSS.
- PAPSS checks and passes it onThe payment is validated and sent straight to the receiving bank in the other country.
- They receive their currencyYour supplier gets the money in their own currency, usually within seconds.
- Banks settle once a dayThe central banks settle only the net difference each day, with Afreximbank as settlement agent.
Why it matters for your business
Faster
Payments arrive in seconds instead of days, so goods move as soon as the money does.
Cheaper
No conversion through dollars or euros and no chain of correspondent banks, so fewer fees and better rates.
Your own currency
Pay in kwacha, cedi, naira, shillings or dollars, and let your partner receive their currency.
Built for African trade
PAPSS is the payment rail of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), designed for trade inside Africa.
Keeps reserves at home
Less demand for hard currency means less pressure on your country's dollar reserves.
Clean books
Every PAPSS payment has a clear reference, so it is easy to match against the invoice it pays.
What we are building
- Get paid through PAPSSYour invoices show how to pay you through PAPSS, so African customers can pay you in their currency.
- Pay bills through PAPSSSend supplier payments from your books instead of typing them into internet banking.
- Matched automaticallyIncoming PAPSS payments are matched to the open invoice, and exchange differences are booked for you.
We are working on this connection now. Until it is live, you book PAPSS payments you send or receive through your bank like any other bank transaction under Banking.
